Valrico is located
15 miles East of downtown Tampa and South West of Plant City.
Valrico is a Spanish name meaning rich valley or valley of gold.
Valrico began as an area of cotton plantations known in the
1800’s as Long Pond. With the completion of the train depot and
post office in 1890, Valrico was connected to other cities.
Businesses varied from lumbering, dairying, nurseries, saw mills
and turpentine stills. Two major packing houses were mainly
responsible for growing and selling citrus on the Citrus
Exchange.
Valrico’s brick
made from local clay was used in 1916 to construct the bank
building and the large civic building. Today those buildings are
still in use as the home of the Village Players Theatrical
Company. The original community was based around a triangular
park in the center of town. Valrico’s park is dedicated to Mr.
Miller who helped lay the foundation of town. Valrico has triple
in size from 1970 from 10,039 residents to 30,736 residents in
the year 2000 with the average income of $100,155
and the average age is 39.
Valrico has a wide
range of houses prices based upon year built, size and acreage.
