Riverview Florida Real Estate

Riverview is south just south of Brandon and
downtown Tampa. The history of Riverview stems from the roots of the
Mocoso Indians who lived near the mouth of the Alafia River and
named the area “Peru” for straight part of the river. The term
Alafia (pronounced "AL-uh-fi", and not "AL-uh-FI-uh"), means "River of
Fire" which comes from the flashes of light that could be seen in
the river during the night from the phosphorus.
Peru’s, later known as Riverview, main population
resided on the north side of the river and traveled across the
waterway by means of a ferry. After the completion of the Riverview
Bridge, the river population exploded and confusion began at the
local post office. By the early 1940’s, the name of Riverview
eventually came into usage for the entire area by the Post Office to
elevate confusion. Today’s population has swelled to over 17,000
residence. Elegant homes to summer cottages to subdivision living
gives Riverview a mix of today’s modern Florida living. Below
